ABOUT DAWA 2.0
DAWA 2.0 asbl: Supporting Music, Culture and Interdisciplinary Creation Since 2014
Founded in 2014 in Brussels, DAWA 2.0 asbl is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the development of musical, cultural, and interdisciplinary projects. Its core mission is to foster collaboration between artists and disciplines, creating bridges across practices and communities.
Over the years, DAWA 2.0 has initiated and supported numerous creative projects. Among them is the Creative Music School (CREAMS), one of the first schools in Brussels to offer Djing and electronic music courses, making music education more inclusive and contemporary.
In 2018, the association launched Deninga Music, an independent music label. Its first release, Shy Girl—the fourth album by Belgian-Chadian-Congolese artist Sarah Carlier—marked a strong debut, highlighting the label’s commitment to emerging voices and cross-cultural sounds.
Following the global cultural crisis of 2020, DAWA 2.0 strengthened its focus on interdisciplinary exchange. Since then, the team has been developing a new space in Brussels that merges second-hand culture with live performances, art exhibitions, and experimental artistic experiences.
In 2022, DAWA 2.0 expanded internationally through an initial collaboration in Lubumbashi (DR Congo). Partnering with Manus asbl, the organisation launched the development of KIPONA Music, the first female-led music label in DR Congo.
Thanks to a 2023 grant from the European Union as part of the ACP-EU Culture Programme – 3rd call “Créer en Afrique centrale”, DAWA 2.0 and its partners have been able to bring the KIPONA Music vision to life. This support has enabled the creation of multiple artistic workshops, concerts, and interdisciplinary cultural exchanges. The project is currently focused on producing its first collective album, showcasing a new generation of Congolese women artists and producers.
This initiative is a powerful reflection of DAWA 2.0’s mission: promoting cultural empowerment, gender inclusion, and transcontinental artistic collaboration through innovative and socially engaged projects.
